Getting to know each other

Hope everyone is having a wonderful long weekend! Reminder--there is no school this Monday and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah, we will be back in school on Wednesday! I can't wait to hear what everyone did over the weekend. This weekend, I got to spend some time with my husband and doggy in Albany. We went apple picking!

Here I am picking apples!
Our first full week has been wonderful! We have been getting to know each other and the school more and more. Every morning we start by greeting each other good morning. On Thursday, we practiced greeting each other with a "good morning" and a handshake. We also practiced looking at each other while greeting.

On Friday, we practiced greeting each other with a prop--we used a puppet!

We have been slowly opening up a language through play center daily...learning the routines and uses of each center so we will know how we can can use the center in the future and better plan our play. On Thursday, we learned about our watercolor center.
K.W creates a rainbow with a variety of watercolors
J.W uses the watercolor to write fire in Chinese
Y.C chooses her colors thoughtfully
For math workshop, we continued with our guided discovery of math manipulatives!

L.C sorts her teddy bear counters by color
J.Z and M.W sort their teddy bear counters together
J.Z and M.W then placed their sorted teddy bear counters around the circle on their table
H.X created a wave with the teddy bear counters and then counted the individual teddy bear counters
For writing workshop, we worked on personalizing our writing folders. If you still have items from home to bring to school for your child to use, please feel free to bring them in!

I have also been keeping my ears and eyes open for project ideas in the future. So far, I'm noticing a lot of interest surrounding castles. I can't wait to see what next week brings us!
