Finishing up our nonfiction all about books!

A couple of updates!

Last Friday was career day. Our class met a U.N transporter, an electrical engineer from ConEd and a firefighter!

On Monday, our chicks went back to the farm. They got quite big and outgrew the little bin they were in for a week! We said our goodbyes and got to pet the chicks before they left.

Look at how big they are!
The children have been working on finishing their all about animal books. This week, they created their author's page and typed up their titles and author bylines!

Trip to the Queens Botanical Garden

Today was such a beautiful day! I'm glad it was perfect weather for our trip to the garden. I was getting worried it would be too humid and the children would get tired on our walk.

Observing nature
Walking through the garden
We observed the different plants and trees
Checking out the bee hive
Smelling the roses
A.M and I.Z smelling the roses
Listening to Ms. Robin
Smelling lavender
We caught a glimpse of two ducks by the water
Ms. Robin lifted up a log to show us the insects

Thanks to M.W's mom for taking photos again! Thank you to A.M and M.W's mom for chaperoning. Also thanks to our wonderful tour guide Ms. Robin for showing us around and teaching us more about flowers, plants and insects. To find more info about the Queens Botanical Garden, click here. You can always use your cool culture card to get in for free.

Mr. O also came into today to do art with us and to finish up our animal puppets!

Reminder, there is no school this Thursday for Brooklyn Queens Day!

Welcome June!

I can't believe it's already June!!! The year has flown by! Lots of fun things to announce. I updated the important dates page, click here. I will be sending a letter home regarding our class' stepping up celebration soon. Note, all kindergarten classes will be having separate stepping up ceremonies in their classrooms so each class will be at a different time. Students will be able to be taken home after (if you wish).

Our chicks hatched last Friday! It's been super exciting for our class to experience. The students have been observing the process each step of the way. They've gotten to look at the chicks and pet them as well! We had 9 chicks hatch!

In reading and writing, we have been immersing ourselves in nonfiction! Reading lots of nonfiction books and learning about the different nonfiction features (table of contents, headings, captions, labels, diagrams, etc.) and we apply that learning when we write our own all about books.
In math, we have been learning about 3D shapes by creating them and finding them in our classroom!

Reminder, tomorrow is our trip to the Queens Botanical Gardens. Please make sure your child wears comfortable shoes for the walk!
