Sharing our published work, shape centers, fire safety

Reminder families, this upcoming weekend is a three day weekend in observance of Columbus Day! Also, if you ever want to talk to me about anything at all, Tuesdays from 2:20-3:20pm, please let me know. :)

This week we have been delving deeper into reading pictures. We also started talking about how as readers we can say a lot about the story using pictures and we can also say how the story makes us feel. When you read with your child at home, have them talk about the story through the pictures and ask them how the story is making them feel...maybe even during different parts of the story!

In writing, we published one story last week and this week, we will be publishing another. Students had an opportunity to share their stories with a partner. We worked on complimenting each other's stories as well.

We have been integrating thinking maps into our read alouds. Recently, we created a bubble map to describe the troll from The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

In math, we are delving into shapes. Each day, we work on a new shape! On Fridays, we do a variety of shape centers-creating shapes with play dough, drawing shapes with a stencil, creating shapes with stamps, etc. Look for shapes at home and talk with your child about the sides and corners of the shape!

Recently, we learned about the hexagon and we used different shapes to create a hexagon--

Last week, firefighters came to our school to teach everyone about fire safety! Firefighter Joanne came into our classroom to discuss how we can safely leave our home in case of fires and what to do in case of a fire! She also showed the class a smoke detector and a video on the ABCs of fire safety!
