Reading
  • September - I am a Reader (Habits of Reading)
  • October - Emergent Story Books

-We will be reading several classic story books at school such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Three Little Pigs, Corduroy, Caps for Sale, and The Gingerbread Boy. Go to the library and check out some of these books to read at home.
-Read with your child daily. Ask your child to tell what is happening in each picture.
-Encourage your child to tell what is happening with facial expressions and to try out different character voices.

  • November -  December - Using Sources of Information

When reading with your child, look for the following:
·      Books with labeling (also known as “list” books)
·      Books with simple repetition—look for the same word or phrases repeated throughout the book
·      Books with simple patterns, with a twist at the end—look for the same word or phrases repeated throughout the book with a change at the end of a book.
當閱讀與你的孩子看看以下:
·       標籤書籍(同時也要知道“列表”的書籍)
·       簡單重複的書籍-在書的開始到結束看到不斷地重複的同一個詞或短語
·       從開始到結束始終能看到相同的文字或簡單的重複模式的書籍-可以看到一些辭彙和短語隨著書中內容的變化反復出現貫穿全書直至結束時。

  • September - Writerly Life

-We will be exploring different kinds of writing children see in the world such as signs, advertisements, cards and post-cards. Point out these kinds of writing at home and in the neighborhood.
-Encourage your child to draw and write their own signs at home.
-Encourage your child to draw and write daily, add details to pictures, and add letters/ labels to their pictures.
